On Tuesday, January 14, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced that Ukrainian investigators continue to communicate with North Korean soldiers captured by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian president published the video on Telegram.
“We establish the facts and check all the details. The world will know the whole truth about how Russia uses such guys who grew up in a complete information vacuum, know nothing about Ukraine and are used exclusively for the continuation and expansion of this war,” Zelenskyy said.
As can be seen from the video, during the interrogation, the prisoner was asked whether the real personal data and photo were indicated in the Russian documents issued by the DPRK military. The soldier confirmed that he had forged documents.
“My name was not there,” said the prisoner.
He also stated that they were taught to take prisoners of the Ukrainian military.

On January 11, it became known that the Defense Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation captured the first North Korean soldiers. Two soldiers of dictator Kim Jong-un’s army were sent to Kyiv, where they are being interrogated by SBU investigators.
One of them had a military ID issued in the name of Antonin Aranchyna. During the interrogation, the 19-year-old prisoner of war said that the document was issued to him in the fall of 2024 in Russia.
Later, the mass media reported that the Russian military ID card was issued in the name of a real resident of the Republic of Tyva. The real Aranchyn repeatedly left applications for microloans and indicated that he worked in forestry or security.
The second soldier from North Korea, taken prisoner, had no documents with him.
South Korean intelligence confirmed that the Ukrainian military captured two North Korean soldiers on January 9 in the Kursk direction.
