On the night of September 7, 2025, Ukraine can see one of the most striking astronomical phenomena – a complete lunar eclipse, known in the people as a “bloody moon”. The Earth’s satellite will become a rich red-orange hue, as if turning into a huge “bloody ball” above the horizon.
It will be a unique sight, because the eclipse will last longer than the last – the full phase will last for 82 minutes, and will become the long time since 2022.
Residents of most countries of the world will be able to see the eclipse, but the conditions for Ukrainians will be the best.
The lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth is between the sun and the moon, completely closing it from the sun. The satellite does not disappear from the sky, but is colored in red.
The color arises due to the atmosphere of the Earth, because sunlight, passing through it, dissipates: blue and purple waves are absorbed, and red – reach the surface of the moon, and it becomes not dark, but “bloody”.
Interestingly, the shade can change-from bright orange to dark red, and depends on the purity of the atmosphere: after eruptions of volcanoes or strong dust storms, the eclipse becomes much darker.
When in Ukraine to observe the lunar eclipse
According to astronomers, in Kiev the event will unfold as follows:
20:30 – the beginning of the complete phase of eclipse;
21:11 – the maximum stage, the moon will shine the most saturated red light;
21:52 – complete phase;
23:55 – the end of the semi -shadow stage.
By this point, the month will already rise high enough so that it can be conveniently observed in cities. The best conditions, of course, are waiting for those who go outside the city.
This eclipse will become a global astronomical phenomenon, as it will be seen in most countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. In part, observations are possible in North America, but the full phase will occur before the east of the moon, so they will not see the spectacle completely.
For Ukraine, the situation is ideal: the night sky will give the full cycle of “bloody” sight from beginning to end.
How to Watch Monthly Eclipse
No special tools are needed to see the bloody moon. Therefore, it is enough to reach the open place with the eastern and southeastern horizon. Binoculars or a small telescope will allow not only shades but also dark areas on the surface of the moon.
Experts advise to choose a place away from the city lanterns and follow the weather forecast – the clear sky will make the sight particularly bright. It is better to bring warm clothing and a thermos with tea, because September nights are cool, and prepare the camera – long exposure will allow you to fix the extraordinary photos.
In addition, monthly eclipse can affect the emotional state, cause exacerbation of experiences, but at the same time give a chance to rethink and start a new stage.
From a scientific point of view, there is no danger to humans, because it is only an astronomical phenomenon that should be used as an opportunity to think about the grandeur of the universe.
