To the Lower Dniester National Nature Park (Odesa Region), Kachur’s Broad (Anas Clypeata) flew. On the way from France he Overcaped almost 7 thousand km.
This was told in the press service of the park, emphasizing that they are talking about the trip of the most unusual duck, which is from France.
In particular, Ukrainian scientists have learned that Dominic went from Wutlett-Sur-Mer (Normania) on March 17, 2025, equipped with a GPS mayak as part of the North-Atlantic Scientific Institute. In 4 months, the bird overcame more than 6800 km, stopping at key nodal “points” of the migration path, the route ran across Europe to Ukraine.
“His journey from the swamps near the Durdodan River ran through Germany (stop on March 28), Latvia, Belarus and Russia with numerous stops on large rivers and reservoirs – from March to July he worked and collected strength …”, – the message reads.
Dominic arrived in the reserve in July.
“This is an amazing episode, because the Dalecobian Kachur chooses our smooth, water and meadow landscapes as an important point in intermediate rest. Why is it so significant? DE FACTO – GPS -Training confirms a route that combines Western European swamps with the Lower Dniester ecosystem. Dominic demonstrates vital dependence on tightly located wetlands along a large route, ”scientists said.
As it is added, the stop in the park emphasizes the value of the region as an “ecological node” for migratory birds. This is another proof that the Nizhnistrovsky National Park is a strategically important place for preserving birds migration routes. It is also noted that the Insena project finances research for a truly large -scale scientific analysis. Collecting details about the stops of each bird allows you to build real cards of movement, with the idea of creating protection zones and saving measures.
Experts are currently continuing to monitor the movement of Dominic – it can stop in new areas of floodplains connected to other monuments of nature.
Meanwhile, the occupiers continue to destroy the Askania Nova Reserve. They took out almost all animals from there, actually destroying it.
