On February 4, bail in the amount of 2 million hryvnias was made for the former head of the department of the border service “Solomonovo” Oleksandr Marushchak.
This was reported by the press service of the High Anti-Corruption Court.
Earlier on the same day, a bail of 10 million hryvnias was also paid for the ex-head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Serhii Deinek. Both officials are suspected of involvement in a large-scale tobacco smuggling scheme.
Oleksandr Marushchak is one of the key figures in the case of corruption in the ranks of the State Security Service. According to the investigation, he participated in the organization of systematic obtaining of illegal benefits for assisting in the illegal transportation of cigarettes across the state border to the countries of the European Union.
Marushchak appears in the case together with Serhii Deineka. Investigators believe that the officials created a “green corridor” for smuggling in exchange for a monetary reward.
During the investigation, it was also established that in 2010-2014, both of them served together with Ukrainian diplomats, whose relatives were passengers in cars with smuggled cigarettes.
Earlier, the High Anti-Corruption Court chose Marushchak as a preventive measure in the form of detention with an alternative of bail of 2 million hryvnias.
A bail of 10 million hryvnias was made for the former head of the DPS of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Serhiy Deinek.
It will be recalled that the DPSU denied rumors about Deinek’s dismissal due to his health.
Also, former head of the State Security Service Serhiy Deineko became an advisor to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
