Today marks the 35th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration on State Sovereignty of Ukraine – a document that has become the foundation for the future independence of our country.
On July 16, 1990, the Verkhovna Rada of the USSR by a constitutional majority – 355 deputies of “for” at four “against” and one who abstained, – approved this historical declaration. For the first time, the document officially proclaimed the sovereignty of Ukraine, defining it as “the rule, independence, completeness and indivisibility of the authorities of the republic within its territory.”
The declaration also enshrined the principle of independence and equality of Ukraine in external relations. This document laid the legal basis for further movement to full independence, which was proclaimed on August 24, 1991.
We will remind, annually on June 28 Ukraine celebrates one of the most important national holidays – Constitution Day.
Also, on July 10, 2025, the world celebrated the Day of Energy Independence, the Day of Never Tesla and the day “Don’t come on a bee”.
