Legendary Ukrainian boxer Volodymyr Klitschko recalled the fight with the British Anthony Joshua and assessed the impact of that fight on his later life:

No, I never watched a fight with Joshua. On the one hand, I lost, but on the other hand, some things in my personal life happened because of the defeat. In fact, it was a loss for the sport, but it was a victory for my life. Victory is very important to me.

There comes a time in life when you need to change its activity. That time came for me in 2017. As the Germans say, you cry with one eye, smile with the other. I’m not going to complain about anything. Everything happened as it should be.

I believe in fate. In the past, I was an athlete and that’s a good thing, because those qualities and principles that are in sports helped me last a long time. Believe me, it is difficult to win once or five times, and it is even more difficult to stay at this level all the time. Both now and in the future there are other challenges, they will always change,” Klitschko said.

Wladimir Klitschko met Anthony Joshua on April 29, 2017, lost by technical knockout and did not enter the ring again after that.
