The legendary Ukrainian boxer was born on January 17, 1987 in Simferopol. As a child, he attended a football school, played as a wing midfielder in the Tavria youth team.
He started boxing at the age of 15. During his amateur career, he became the champion of Europe and the world in various weight categories, successfully performed at international tournaments, in particular, as part of the “Ukrainian captains” team in the World Series Boxing (WSB) semi-professional league.
He won gold at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, defeating the Italian Clemente Russo in the final.
He had his first fight in the professional ring on November 9, 2013, knocking out Mexican Felipe Romero in the third round.
On October 4, 2014, Usyk defeated the South African boxer Daniel Brewer by knockout at the end of the seventh round and won his first regional title – the interim WBO Inter-Continental champion.
On September 17, 2016, he defeated Polish representative Krzysztof Glowacki and became a full-fledged world champion according to the version of the World Boxing Organization (WBO). The opponent was defeated by a unanimous decision of the judges.
Successfully performed under the auspices of the World Boxing Super Series, defeating the German Marko Hook, Mairis Briedis from Latvia and the Russian Murat Gassiev. Became the absolute world champion in the first heavyweight.
At the beginning of 2019, Usyk announced the transition to the super heavyweight weight category. In the royal division, Usyk became the absolute world champion twice, defeating many famous opponents – Tony Bellew, Derek Chisor, Anthony Joshua, Daniel DuBois, Tyson Fury.
