On this day, in 2016, a Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk won his first championship title in the pro ring.
The opponent of Usyk, who was then holding his tenth fight in his professional career, was Polish Krzysztof Glowacki, who at that time held the WBO cruiserweight title.
Usyk managed to convincingly outbox the Pole and won by a unanimous decision of the judges: 117-111, 119-109, 117-111. Oleksandr took the WBA belt from Glowacki and became the world champion for the first time.
