WBO President Gustavo Olivieri said that if Oleksandr Usyk refuses to fight with the organization’s interim champion Fabio Wordley, the Ukrainian will lose the super heavyweight title, for which two Britons will fight.
“We have the right to schedule a title fight between the interim champion (Wordley) and the mandatory challenger (Itauma). If Oleksandr Usyk for any reason does not come out for the fight (with Wardley – adj.), then we appoint him independently,” said Olivieri.
Wardley recently defeated Joseph Parker and can now fight the Ukrainian.
Usyk has not yet reacted to Wardley’s victory, but refusing the fight will result in the loss of the title.
