“Lapin – about why the Ukrainian left the WBO belt”, — write: sport.ua
Director of the three-time absolute world champion team Oleksandr Usyk Serhii Lapin explained why the Ukrainian decided to vacate the WBO title instead of a fight with mandatory contender Fabio Wordley. According to Lapin, the organization acted too hastily, putting pressure on the boxer.
“Alexander left the belt because the WBO was in a big hurry. He chose a different path – to give younger boxers an opportunity to prove themselves,” said a representative of the boxer’s team.
Previously, the WBC, WBA and IBF heavyweight title holder (over 90.7 kg) Oleksandr Usyk (24–0, 15 KOs) talked about his plans and admitted when he intends to end his professional career. The boxer recently made the WBO title vacant and lost the status of absolute world champion.
