Source: Usyk planned a grand fight in the future

Oleksandr does not rule out a fight for another absolute title”, — write: sport.ua

Well-known boxing columnist Michael Cooper reacted to the decision Oleksandr Usyk to relinquish the WBO title and explained why it could be the basis for another fight for the absolute world champion.

According to him, the reason for the Ukrainian’s move was quite clear: Usyk was not interested in a fight with Fabio Wardley, and the WBO demanded a mandatory defense against the British.

“Theoretically, he could cite an injury and postpone the fight, but decided not to block the plans of Wordley and Queensberry promoters,” the journalist noted.

Despite the loss of the WBO belt, Usyk remains the WBA, WBC and IBF champion. Koper emphasizes that with the right financial offer, the Ukrainian is ready to fight for the WBO title and become the absolute champion in super heavyweight for the third time – and for the fourth time in his career in general. He recalled that a similar situation had already occurred with the IBF belt: Usyk gave up the title, but later returned it by defeating Daniel Dubois.

OFFICIALLY. Usyk is no longer the absolute world champion. Boxer made a decision
