Promoter Frank Warren regrets that Oleksandr Usyk did not want to defend his WBO belt against mandatory challenger Fabio Wordley, who was promoted to champion status.
Warren is sure that the fight would have gathered a full stadium.
“We are sorry that Usyk changed his mind about Wordley. He previously said he wanted to fight the winner of the Wardley-Parker fight. Apparently, Usyk thought that the risk was not worth the financial bonus he would receive.”
“Although I’m sure we would have sold out the entire stadium. There were already thoughts of holding a match at the Tottenham arena. Let’s see who Fabio will fight in the title defense,” said Warren.
Wordley is expected to fight Moses Itauma in the spring of 2026.
