Every day at 9 in the morning, Ukrainians honor the memory of people whose lives were taken by the Russian-Ukrainian war. Today, Sport.ua remembers the boxer from Lviv, Oleksandr Suknevych, who defended Ukraine at the beginning of the full-scale invasion and died exactly two years ago, on January 2, 2024, in Bakhmut, Donetsk region.

Oleksandr Suknevych was born on July 28, 1998 in Lviv, where he studied at secondary comprehensive school No. 72 and practiced boxing. Sashko was a pupil of the Lviv Boxing School, trained with coach Vasyl Shan. He repeatedly became the winner and prize-winner of regional championships. Passion for sports contributed to the choice of a higher educational institution. Oleksandr was educated at the Ivan Boberskyi Lviv State University of Physical Culture, and after completing his studies, he served in the military in Yavoriv and Rivne, from which he was discharged early due to his health.

After being demobilized, Suknevych worked as a sales representative in Lviv, and was fond of cars. Oleksandr also helped his mother in the “Dlya dobra” charitable foundation, which takes care of homeless animals.

Until a full-scale war broke out. From the very beginning, Oleksandr stood up for Ukraine. In the army, he had the call sign Mag. He joined the ranks of the 42nd separate mechanized brigade of the operational command “West” of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, performed combat missions in the eastern direction.

Oleksandr Suknevych died on January 2, 2024 while performing a combat mission in Bakhmut, Donetsk region.

Parents, grandparents and two brothers were waiting for Oleksandr at home.
