Former champion: “2-3 years ago, it would have been more difficult for Usyk. Fury has passed his peak”

The silver medalist of the 2000 Olympic Games in boxing, the former world champion among professionals in the first welterweight according to the WBA version Andriy Kotelnyk exclusively for Sport.ua shared his impressions about the rematch in Saudi Arabia, in which the Ukrainian super heavyweight Oleksandr Usyk prevailed over the British Tyson Fury:

– In my opinion, the rivalry was fought in an equal fight and the advantage in points was less than the verdict of the referees. But there is no doubt that the Ukrainian won deservedly.

What was the key to Usyk’s success? In my opinion, not only the speed, but also the fact that, compared to the May match, he added in accuracy, especially in blows to the body. Both boxers approached the confrontation in combat sports form, but it seemed that the last fights were less exhausting for Usyk than for Fury, and therefore he was fresher. Although, I am convinced that if these two fights between Usyk and Fury had taken place 2-3 years ago, it would have been much more difficult for Oleksandr. It feels like the peak of Tyson’s career is behind us,” said Kotelnyk.

Usyk beat Fury. It was nerve-wracking, but good
