Dembele – fifth, Usyk – 14th. The best athlete of the year in Europe has been determined

Multiple world record holder, two-time Olympic champion in pole vaulting, Swede Armand Duplantis was recognized as the best athlete of 2025 in Europe.

Duplantis scored 184 points in the poll, which involved 23 news agencies from across the continent, ahead of Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, the Roland Garros and US Open champion, and Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogachar, who won the Tour de France for the fourth time.

World champion in super heavyweight, Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk took 14th place, which he shared with Norwegian biathlete Johannes Bø.

No less than 62 athletes (20 women and 42 men) from 22 sports disciplines representing 24 countries received points in the survey. The ranking has the most representatives from Norway (9), followed by Spain (6), France (5), the Netherlands, Italy and Great Britain (4 each).

Among sports, football has the most representatives (10), followed by athletics (8), basketball (8), tennis (5) and swimming (5).
