“The Ministry of Education and Science has appointed an acting head of the institution, who must organize “open and competitive elections – real, objective and devoid of influence”, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org
“The other day, the president (read – rector) of the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, Mykhailo Poplavskyi, had his contract expire. Legally and factually, Mykhailo Poplavsky managed the institution for more than 30 years. When one person leads a university for more than three decades, it goes beyond healthy managerial changeability,” he wrote on Facebook.
“In my opinion, the public style and tone broadcast by the head of the institution over the years formed a distorted image of what a cultural institution and Ukrainian culture in general should be. Instead, over the years, the manager’s name repeatedly appeared in public materials regarding accusations of harassment,” the minister noted.
According to him, the combination of the leadership of a state university and the activities of a related private educational institution raises questions about a possible conflict of interest.
“The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has appointed an acting head of the institution, who must organize open and competitive elections – real, objective and devoid of influence,” he added.
73-year-old Mykhailo Poplavskyi is a singer, rector of the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, professor, ex-people’s deputy, and was a member of the currently banned Party of Regions. He has repeatedly been criticized for sexism. In an interview, he called himself a “loving man” who “adores female students.”
