From September 2026, Russia plans to introduce a digital ruble in the occupied Luhansk region, which stated Oleksiy Kharchenko, head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration.
This innovation, which has no economic justification, is intended to strengthen control over local residents.
The new currency is seen being introduced in areas with limited internet access, raising fears of possible financial paralysis.
The digital ruble, which is introduced in parallel with the regular currency, creates risks for the population due to the lack of necessary conditions for its functioning. In addition, part of payments in this form will become mandatory, which, according to analysts, indicates an attempt to hide restrictions in the monetary system and the growth of inflation due to the war and sanctions.
These actions emphasize that the inhabitants of the occupied territories are considered only as a resource for experiments without taking into account their opinion.
