Thank you!
Madeline Schizas competing in the team event on FridayCredit: Shutterstock Editorial Schizas is studying sociology and thought her deadline was Sunday.
It turns out her assignment was due in yesterday, so it appears as well as representing Canada she will be doing some school work in Italy this weekend – if the extension is granted.
She is a student at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada and is on course to graduate this summer.
The 22-year-old is competing in her second Olympics.
She made her Olympic debut at Beijing 2022, finishing second in the women’s short program and free skate portions of the competition.
While she stayed in the Olympic Village, COVID-19 restrictions robbed her of a true Olympic experience or having her friends and family there to support her.
The 4-foot-11 Schizas hasn’t medaled yet in either an Olympic or World Championship competition, but she is hopeful of changing her fortunes in Milan Cortina.
While attempting to skate at an Olympic level and juggling university studies seems difficult, Schizas insists it provides balance in her life.

“If I was only skating, that’s all that I’d think about 24 hours a day. I knew I needed another outlet.
“Going to class, turning in assignments and studying keeps me busy and grounded.”
With figure skating kicking off yesterday at the Games and her assignment due Sunday, Schizas certainly has the chance to stay grounded.
