The USA again proposed Ukraine and Russia to implement an energy truce. Ukraine has already agreed to this initiative, but Russia has not yet responded. It is about ending attacks on energy infrastructure, which remains one of the main targets of attacks.
The United States again proposed to Ukraine and Russia to implement the so-called energy truce — that is, to stop strikes on energy facilities. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a conversation with journalists after the negotiations that took place in Abu Dhabi.
According to the president, the American side took this initiative as part of broader efforts aimed at reducing tensions and protecting critical infrastructure. “America invited both parties to once again support the President of the United States’ energy de-escalation initiative. Ukraine has confirmed, Russia has not yet,” Zelensky said.
The President emphasized that Ukraine supports this proposal, as the protection of energy is directly related to the safety of people. It is not only about the operation of power plants, but also about heat, light and water for millions of citizens.
According to him, Russia has not yet given a final answer to this initiative. At the same time, the Ukrainian side expects that Moscow’s position will become clear after the Russian delegation returns home. “Usually they respond after returning to Russia. Let’s see what their reaction will be this time,” said the head of state.
Ukraine’s energy infrastructure remains one of the main targets of Russian attacks since the start of the full-scale war. Power plants, substations, power lines and thermal facilities are regularly hit. This leads to blackouts, problems with heat supply and interruptions in the operation of critical systems.
That is why the issue of an energy truce is of great importance. If the parties agree to such an initiative, it could reduce the risk of new large-scale outages and ease the work of energy workers who are constantly repairing damaged infrastructure. At the same time, experts note that even a temporary cessation of attacks can provide an opportunity to stabilize the system, carry out the necessary repairs and prepare the power industry for the next loads.
Ukraine has repeatedly stated that it is ready to support diplomatic initiatives that will help reduce the number of attacks on civilian infrastructure and protect the civilian population.
