Trump removed 25% tariffs on all Indian goods in exchange for reduced purchases of Russian oil

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to eliminate 25% tariffs on all Indian goods starting in 2025 in response to India’s purchase of a large volume of Russian oil.

Details: Earlier, Trump announced a trade deal with India that reduced US tariffs on Indian goods to 18%, according to the White House. In exchange for this, New Delhi agreed to stop purchases of Russian oil and reduce trade barriers.

According to sources, New Delhi has already begun to reduce the import of energy resources from the Russian Federation. In January 2026, the volume was about 1.2 million barrels per day, in February it is expected to decrease to 1 million barrels, and in March – to 800 thousand.

In 2025, the Trump administration imposed increased tariffs as economic pressure on India for buying cheap Russian fuel, which the US viewed as indirect support for Russia’s military actions against Ukraine.

Thus, from midnight on February 7, 2026, goods from India imported into the US will no longer be subject to an additional 25% tariff.
