In the case of the former first deputy head of the Dnipropetrovsk OVA Volodymyr Orlov, court debates ended today, February 6.
The judge found out that both sides of the court proceedings made speeches, fully exchanged remarks and had nothing more to add to what was said. After that, she announced court debates finished and gave the last word to the defendant Orlov.
“As at the first meeting a year ago, and today, I believe that I am innocent. I didn’t do anything illegal. And I am waiting for an honest, legal decision,” said Volodymyr Orlov.
After listening to the last word of the accused, the judge went to the conference room to pass the verdict on the proceedings.
The verdict will be announced on Tuesday, February 10. The exact time will be additionally communicated to the process participants.
“I hoped that today’s court session would be the final one, because the stage of the debate was coming to an end, and the prosecution and defense parties had no more comments left. My last word was quite succinct: I emphasized once again that I had done no wrongdoing. After that, the judge went to the conference room until Tuesday. I will be informed about the exact time of the announcement of the verdict a little later.
Indeed, I really want this horror, which has been going on in my life for a year and three months, to finally end. Today we calculated: from the moment I was notified of the suspicion until today, exactly 15 months have passed. For consideration of a case of this category, this is a fairly quick deadline. We have been waiting for a long time, so we have to wait a little longer. I have already decided everything for myself: I do not consider myself a criminal, a briber or a corrupt person. I am convinced that this is a politically ordered and motivated case. It is very unfortunate that anti-corruption bodies are used for such purposes.
The most infuriating thing is that cases in which there is no damage, no victims, and no negative consequences are dealt with by structures that, instead, spend huge state funds and funds from international donors,” commented the expositor.
We will remind you of Volodymyr Orlov accused in an alleged request to provide $200,000 for assistance in leasing 19 hectares of a forest plot (Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code). According to the investigation, it is about the appeal of a private company that planned to use the land for recreational activities.
However, in the case there is no fact of transfer of money, no established losses, and the main witness is the so-called “agent provocateur” – a citizen of the Russian Federation with several criminal convictions, who simultaneously appears as an applicant in a number of other NABU cases Oleksiy Gonchar.
Orlov himself assures who became a victim of a political order, and the bail of 22 million hryvnias, which was previously assigned to him, is nothing more than an attempt by the system to “appoint the guilty”.
The position of the prosecution remains unchanged: the prosecutors ask to find Orlov guilty and sentence him to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
