President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Ukraine hopes to end the war already this year. He emphasized the importance of support from the US and Europe and called on Ukraine to provide modern air defense systems to protect the energy industry. This is what the head of state said said in an address to participants of a prayer breakfast in Washington.
According to him, this is possible thanks to the joint efforts of Ukraine, the USA, Europe and other partners. “We sincerely hope that together with you, with America, with our European friends and other countries, we can end this war this year. And diplomacy, unfortunately, takes time,” Zelensky noted.
The head of state emphasized that Ukrainians literally fight for their lives every day, and every attack on the country and attempt to destroy the energy system makes the situation even more difficult. That is why it is critically important for Ukraine to have enough means of air defense.
“We fight every day for the darkness to lose. Therefore, it is important for us to have enough air defense for safe skies. It is important for us to support our people and recover from the shocks. It is important for us to achieve a decent peace and reliable security guarantees. And I thank you for every action and every prayer that helps make this possible,” the president added.
Zelenskyi also expressed his gratitude to the United States and personally to the US leader Donald Trump for efforts to support Ukraine in its quest for peace. He stressed the importance of continued air defense and missile assistance to protect critical infrastructure that is constantly under attack.
The president noted that negotiations with Russia are ongoing, and diplomacy needs time, but Ukraine hopes to put an end to the war already this year, having done so together with international partners.
