The Security Service of Ukraine officially qualified the morning car explosion in the Kyiv district of Odessa as an act of terrorism. The incident occurred on February 6, 2026, on Tairov Street. On this fact, criminal proceedings have been initiated under Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Operational groups of the SBU, criminalists and explosives technicians of the National Police are working at the scene to clarify all the circumstances.

According to the press service of the SBU in the Odesa region, the tragedy happened around 05:00 today. The epicenter of the explosion was a car parked near a multi-story apartment building on Akademik Korolev Street.
“The SBU qualifies the car explosion in the Kyiv district of Odesa as a terrorist act and has already opened a corresponding criminal proceeding. According to the preliminary data of the investigation, the explosion took place today around 05:00 near a residential building on Akademik Korolev Street. The driver of the car died,” the SBU said.
The law enforcement officers are currently establishing the identity of the deceased and finding out whether this person was the target of the attack or an accidental victim. The type of explosives and the method of its activation will be determined by experts after the completion of primary investigative actions.
The Security Service opened a case under Part 3 of Art. 258 of the Criminal Code (Terrorist act resulting in the death of a person).
