In this regard, the Council of Europe will be asked to remove his immunity, which was preserved even after his resignation. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Espen Bart Eide, announced that he would submit a corresponding proposal to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

As part of the investigation, it will be checked whether Jagland received any suspicious benefits in the form of gifts, loans and paid trips during his tenure as the Secretary General of the Council of Europe (2009-2019) and chairman of the Nobel Committee (2009-2015).

The Council of Europe noted that the documents related to the case are internal and secret, so they cannot be made public. “Of course, we are ready to cooperate with the Norwegian authorities,” the comment added.

Jagland’s lawyer assured that they, on their part, will prepare documents that should dispel suspicions.

Meanwhile, a number of Norwegian parties in the parliament are demanding an independent investigation through a special commission at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Norway is one of the countries where the publication of millions of pages of the Epstein case caused the biggest scandal. In addition to Jagland, serious image problems arose in Crown Princess Mette-Marit.

Because of the discovered facts of communication with Epstein suspended from the post of ambassador of Norway in Jordan and Iraq, whose husband – also a Norwegian and an influential UN negotiator – appears to have been a close friend of the late billionaire.
