On February 4-5, Ukraine, the USA and Russia held the second round of trilateral peace talks in Abu Dhabi. The main topic was ways of implementing a truce and the mutual release of prisoners — the parties agreed on the exchange of 157 prisoners of war. Further meetings are planned in the coming weeks, probably in the USA. This was reported by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umyerov Facebook and president Volodymyr Zelenskyi of Ukraine.

During two days, February 4 and 5, the delegations of Ukraine, the United States and Russia gathered in Abu Dhabi for the second round of trilateral talks organized by the United Arab Emirates. The main goal of the meeting was to advance efforts to end the war and create conditions for lasting peace.

As a result of the discussions, the parties reached an agreement on the mutual release of 157 prisoners of war — this is the first such exchange in the last five months. The delegations also discussed unresolved issues regarding the methods of implementation of the ceasefire, control over the cessation of hostilities and monitoring mechanisms. “During two days, the delegations held extensive discussions on other unresolved issues, including methods of implementing a ceasefire and monitoring the cessation of hostilities,” the final communiqué issued by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umyerov, says.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the Ukrainian delegation had already informed him about the results of the negotiations. He noted that a more detailed report will be prepared in Kyiv, because many aspects cannot be discussed over the phone. According to Zelenskyi, the next meetings are planned, probably in the USA. “It is important that this war ends in such a way that Russia has no reward for aggression. This is one of the key principles that underpin and guarantee true security. I thank all partners who support us in this,” the president emphasized.

Ukraine emphasized its readiness to work in all working formats that will help bring peace closer and make it reliable and lasting. The parties agreed to brief their capitals and continue negotiations in the coming weeks.

The communique also expressed gratitude to the United Arab Emirates for hosting the meeting and to US President Donald Trump for his leadership in advancing efforts to end the war. “During the negotiations, all aspects that can help create safe conditions for lasting peace were discussed. It was a constructive round, and we are planning further meetings in the near future,” the document said.

The second round of negotiations was a step forward in the search for mechanisms to end the war, mutual exchange of prisoners and implementation of effective monitoring of the observance of the ceasefire. Although a final resolution of all issues will require several more rounds, the prisoner swap agreements and concrete plans for subsequent meetings show progress in the talks.

We will remind, the second day of negotiations has already started in Abu Dhabi.

Head of OP Kyrylo Budanov commented on the results of the second round of negotiations between Ukraine, the USA and Russia, which took place in Abu Dhabi. According to him, the consultations were of a constructive nature.

We reported that between Ukraine and Russia took place another exchange of prisoners of war according to the “157 for 157” formula.

Ukraine held a new cartel during which 157 Ukrainians – servicemen and civilians – returned home. Among those released are soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard and the State Border Service.
