“We have our position, our national interests. We cannot and will not make concessions on our territories,” said Kornienko. He also noted the strategic importance of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. According to him, the station is a key facility for the energy system and economic recovery after the war. “The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is an important strategic object. At the same time, we have now destroyed a lot in the energy sector, many generating capacities. It is important for the recovery of our economy,” the politician explained.
Kornienko also emphasized that Russia does not show any readiness to stop hostilities, although there were earlier proposals to this effect from the United States. “Russia does not show any goodwill towards stopping the contact line, as US President Donald Trump proposed in March,” he noted.
Security guarantees are an important point for the Ukrainian side. Kornienko emphasized that without them the negotiations lose their meaning. “Without security guarantors, we will be considered to have surrendered to Russia. Because without security guarantors, Ukraine will become a state that never happened, and this will be an even greater victory for Russia,” the politician said.
He added that Ukraine is ready to honor its obligations and recognize security guarantees with the support of its allies. “The United States knows that we are very reliable partners. Here, it is very important that, together with the entire coalition of allies, they exert the right pressure on Russia. We will continue military resistance. Europe should exert economic pressure, support us and bring Russia to terms under which it will agree to the fair terms of this peace,” Kornienko emphasized.
The negotiation process remains complex and difficult, but the Ukrainian side has a unified position and is ready to defend it. Summarizing, the politician noted that it is not just peace at any price that is important for Ukraine, but a safe and just peace that will protect the country’s territorial integrity and interests.
