Ihor Terekhov said that he supports raising the salaries of social workers, but without subventions from the state budget, this shifts the responsibility to local communities. It is especially difficult to provide such financing to front-line cities like Kharkiv.
This was stated by the mayor of Kharkiv Igor Terekhov in an interview “Glavkomma“.
The city authorities of Kharkiv support the initiative to increase the wages of social workers, but for this the cities need the support of the state. “We are only in favor of social workers finally receiving decent wages – we have been talking about this for a long time. But without real financial resources from the state, subventions to local budgets for the implementation of this decision, this is not support, but a transfer of responsibility,” said Ihor Terekhov.
In addition to the lack of funding from the state, the decision to raise wages for some workers in Kharkiv, which is a front-line city, has certain difficulties. “Especially for frontline communities, which simultaneously finance security, recovery after shelling and basic services for people,” explains the mayor of Kharkiv.
Ihor Terekhov explained that he was thinking about increasing the salaries of social workers from the city budget. The mayor said that the city will raise the issue of allocating funds from the state budget for this. “My position remains unchanged: during the war, the state should not put pressure on the economy of communities, but create conditions for its preservation and restoration. We will ask the government about the allocation of relevant subventions,” Terekhov said.
We will remind that after the attack on the thermal power station in Kharkiv, three districts were left without heat.
“More than 40 buildings are only subject to demolition” – Terekhov about Kharkiv.
