Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal announced the threat of increased power outage schedules due to a significant generation deficit following the latest strikes by the Russian Federation.
According to Shmyhal, the intelligence has information about the preparation of new attacks on energy facilities by the enemy already within the next week. Despite round-the-clock restoration work, in which more than 230 teams of energy workers and 40 groups of Naftogaz are involved in Kyiv alone, the power shortage remains critical.
The government has set a priority for houses where it is currently technically impossible to restore centralized heating: in such houses, light must be available for at least 18 hours a day. Shmyhal emphasized that the local authorities are obliged to provide residents with clear deadlines for completing repairs on heating networks. In parallel with the restoration, work continues on strengthening the protection of the surviving generation facilities, since the stability of the power system remains the main goal of enemy pressure in the winter period.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the financing of the first stage of the new state program “SvitloDim”, aimed at providing multi-apartment buildings with autonomous energy sources.
On Thursday, February 5, 2026, in all regions of Ukraine, hourly blackout schedules will be in effect 24 hours a day. Power limit schedules will also be applied to industrial consumers.
