The verdict can still be appealed.

Prosecutors initially accused him of misconduct and ethnic insults, which carried a sentence of up to five months in prison.

The incident happened at the end of February last year at one of the bus stops. The tram driver pushed three Ukrainians out of the cabin – an elderly couple with a grandson – and barked at them, and also, according to the indictment, hit the man. A family of Ukrainians has been living in the Czech Republic since 2022.

The conflict occurred after the boy stood with his feet on the seat and knocked on the glass partition. In court, the man explained that he did not prevent his grandson from doing this, because he was taken from kindergarten in a pram and the shoes were actually clean, and that he told the child not to knock anymore after he did it the first time.

The driver then left the cabin, reprimanded them for the child making noise and standing on the seat, finally began to accuse them in raised tones that they “polluted the tram” and told them to get out, and also emphasized their nationality. The incident was filmed by witnesses.

According to the man, other passengers told them not to get out – but they decided to get out because the child was scared and crying. After that, there was almost another physical fight, when the man told the woman to take a picture of the number of the tram, and the driver saw it.

The driver denies that he tried to hit anyone and claims that he was pointing a finger in the gesture.

During two years of work, Bayvl received eight complaints from passengers, but most of them were not confirmed. He no longer works as a tram driver.

Also in the Czech Republic, the case of a man accused of beating of two Ukrainian women.
