For calls to hang Putin, an oncologist was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison in the Russian Federation

The First Western District Military Court sentenced oncologist Yehor Voshchynin to five and a half years in a general regime colony on charges of inciting terrorism, the press service of the St. Petersburg courts reported on February 4.

Voschynin was detained on July 2, 2025. There are four episodes in his case. According to the investigation, the man’s messages and comments in the telegram of October 20 and 23, 2023 and December 7 and 13, 2024 contain “signs of incitement to carry out the death penalty of political figures of the Russian Federation by hanging.”

SOTAvision writes that at one of the hearings, judge Valeria Fateenkova read out the names of these figures – President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.

Yehor Voshchynin, according to the publication, taught at the Mechnikov Institute, and then worked for 14 years at the Petrov National Medical Research Center for Oncology. He assisted the surgeon who performed infusion therapy. He had four children left at liberty.

According to the human rights project “First Division”, from the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine to June 2025, 2,590 verdicts were passed in Russia in cases of “terrorism” against 2,901 people. 34 of them were sent to forced treatment. Most of the cases are related to the war in Ukraine in one way or another – military commissaries, relay cabinets, autos were set on fire, reports to Ukrainian units, as well as the so-called “excuse of terrorism”.
