What preceded:
In October 2025 Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sybiga announced that this year Ukraine will close its embassy in Havana, Cuba and reduce the level of diplomatic relations with it.
Sybiga explained that the decision is connected, in particular, with the position of the Cuban authorities regarding the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine and with information about the massive involvement of Cuban citizens in the Russian army.
According to the minister, thousands of Cubans have signed contracts and are participating in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine, and he called Havana’s reluctance to stop this process complicity in aggression.
