At the same time, she warned that it threatens to “blur the picture of what the problem really is.”
“If you look back over the last 100 years, Russia has attacked at least 19 countries, some of them 3-4 times. None of these countries has ever attacked Russia,” Kallas said.
She said Europe should seek concessions from Russia, including limits on its military forces, army and nuclear weapons, and demand accountability “for crimes committed.”
Callas said that the Russians are trying to focus on negotiations with the US to avoid difficult conversations because they believe that “talks with the Americans [допомагають] them [з] maximalist demands, which they did not even achieve by military means.”
But she insisted that the EU has a “very clear role” in vetting any potential future peace deal because “European involvement is necessary”.
The FT, citing sources, previously reported that US security guarantees for Ukraine would depend on Kyiv’s prior agreement to withdrawal of their troops from the unoccupied part of Donbas – as it were demanded Russia.
After that in the White House called false these media reports.
