Only every fifth Ukrainian hopes for the end of the war with Russia by the middle of 2026.
This was reported by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS).
According to the latest KMIS poll, only 20% of Ukrainians expect the war with Russia to end in the coming weeks or by mid-2026.
At the same time, 18% predict the end of the conflict in the second half of 2026, and 43% believe that the war will last until 2027 or longer. Another 19% of respondents could not give a specific answer.
For comparison, in September-October 2025, 33% of Ukrainians hoped for the end of the war by the middle of 2026, and in December 2025, 26% said so. “Over time, fewer and fewer citizens count on a quick end to the conflict,” KMIS notes.
The survey also reflects the attitude of Ukrainians to the negotiations, their expectations of effectiveness, and the population’s self-assessment of stability. This is especially important against the background of difficult weather conditions and significant destruction of the country’s energy infrastructure.
