Below Deck’s Captain Kerry Titheradge has confirmed his split from long-term girlfriend Gönül Bihan in an exclusive interview with The Daily Mail.

Titheradge, 50, detailed the heartbreaking decision to finally ‘pull the ripcord’ after nearly six years with Bihan – and how he had been grappling with whether or not to split during his visit to BravoCon.

The fate of the relationship weighed heavily on Titheradge while attending the annual convention in November 2025 – and the massive decision kept him from staying in the moment.

‘I was very much going through making a big decision, you know? Been together for, would have been six years in January, and you put all the effort into a relationship, and then you get to a point, you’ve got to pull the ripcord,’ he told the Daily Mail.

‘There was a lot of thinking about that during BravoCon, trying to decide, you know, the future of the relationship, and yeah, my head was there for the most part,’ he said.

With his relationship in limbo, Titheradge admits he ‘wasn’t on point’ at BravoCon.

Titheradge said the decision to split from Bihan weighed heavily on his mind at BravoCon

Kerry opened up about his relationship and career in a wide-ranging interview with the Daily Mail

‘I didn’t do a lot of stuff on the panels this year and I was going through some things in my relationships, so I wasn’t on point. I wasn’t everything I could have been,’ he said.

The relationship predated his time on Below Deck; Titheradge had been with Bihan for six years, and he joined the show in 2022. He described Bihan as ‘my love of my life’ during an appearance at 2023 BravoCon.

An experienced captain, Titheradge is a fan favorite and was viewed by many as a perfect fit for the yachting reality series.

‘I started on boats when I was 18,’ Titheradge told the Mail. ‘I was on parasailing vessels, I was on commercial tugs, landing barges, dredges, ferries, water taxis. I’ve worked on a lot of different vessels but I came into yachting in 2004.’

As a captain traveling the high seas, Titheradge is prepared to deal with the unexpected – with the safety of everyone onboard a top priority.

In 2023, the safety of the crew became massive talking point after a sexual misconduct scandal rocked the set of Below Deck: Down Under.

Crew members Luke Jones and Laura Bileskalne were fired after separately getting into the beds of other members of the crew without consent in the episode that aired in 2023.

It’s an issue that Titheradge, who was not on that particular show, has ‘zero tolerance’ for.

‘It’s a horrible situation for any of us to be in. I hold all my crew, including the film crew, to be accountable to step in in a situation like that,’ he said when asked about his thoughts on the scandal.

‘None of us want to see anybody in that situation and it’s humanity that makes us do that, right? So we take care of each other.

‘So absolutely, I have zero tolerance for sexual harassment, and intimidation, bullying.

‘We saw in Below Deck Adventure, we had that one guy, Kyle [Dickard], he was bullying one of the staff, and he was out real quick,’ he said. ‘There’s no second chances in that department at all,’ he added.

On the show, Dickard was asked to resign after he was accused of ‘threatening violence’ towards one of the crewmembers.

Cameras captured him asking his roommate if he wanted to ‘tussle’ over a bathroom squabble. Dickard ultimately accepted an offer by Titheradge to resign after he admitted to the language.

Titheradge also recalled stepping in when he noticed Dickard was ‘putting pressure’ on one of the female crew members.

Despite her assurances that she was able to ‘handle it’, for Titheradge that was not a satisfactory answer.

‘I remember talking to one of the girls because he was getting a bit too, you know, putting pressure on one of the girls a lot, a bit, and I asked her how she felt about it, and she said, “I can handle it” and I’m like, “That is not the answer.”

‘We’re not there to handle these things,’ he said. ‘You shouldn’t feel like you should have to handle it… We’re not in the 1940s or 50s, right, are we?… We’re at a place where we’re all equal, we all deserve respect.’

Titheradge appears to be referencing Dickard kissing steward Kasie Faddah on the check during an excursion. He was encouraged to do so by a guest, and he smooched her on the cheek in a moment that got back to Titheradge.

Titheradge met with Faddah after learning about the flirting and asked her, ‘Did he make you feel uncomfortable?’

‘I mean, I took it,’ Faddah replied. ‘The guests were egging Kyle on. I think it’s just friendly on his side.’

‘That’s not OK,’ Titheradge said. ‘You shouldn’t be put in that position.’

In a confessional, Titheradge said: ‘The guests, if they want us to be part of their fun, that’s great, but there’s a line. Kyle crossed the line. A woman should never be put in a position she’s uncomfortable with. And doing stuff in front of people makes them more uncomfortable, and they’re more likely to tolerate it ’cause they don’t wanna create a scene. That’s a horrible place to put somebody.’

Speaking with The Daily Mail, Titheradge said he is prepared to intervene if he senses a line has been crossed.

‘We are in an industry where there’s attractive people,’ he said. ‘There’s a lot of flirting going on in both directions, but if you feel like someone has invaded your space, and they’re not welcome. And you let them know that and they continue, we have a problem.

Kerry has been on Below Deck since 2022 but has decades of yachting experience under his belt

Titheradge, pictured Bravocon 2025, admitted he wasn’t ‘on point’ at BravoCon as he grappled with ending the relationship

‘We’re all human, we all make mistakes, we all misread signals. And we should all not be in fear that we can’t compliment the other person, but if you’re made to feel uncomfortable. And I see that, or hear about it, or I ask you a question and I can see that you’re trying to hold it in, because you feel as a person that you should be able to deal with this,’ he said, shaking his head. ‘No.’

The Daily Mail has contacted Dickard, Bileskalne, and Bravo for comment. Jones did not comment when reached out by The Daily Mail.

Titheradge said he uses a ‘firm but fair’ approach when it comes to managing his crew.

‘I’m very firm but fair,’ he said when the topic of his management style came up. ‘We’ve seen that throughout the seasons, and that is how I am. But when someone takes my kindness for weakness, then F around and find out. So, for those people that want to put in and work hard and want to be there, I’m 100% behind you.

‘If you stumble, which we all do. We all stumble. I’ve stumbled many times myself, and I’ll stumble a few more times after. I’m there for you. But if you’re not there for the right reasons, I don’t have time for you.’

Indeed, Titheradge is not only serving as a sort of teacher to his crew but he has found that the show has helped him learn about himself in ways he is grateful for.

Following a devastating divorce from his ex-wife – a woman called Jennifer who he shares his two children with – Titheradge said he found himself at a crossroads.

He told the Mail that this experience had a big impact on his work, in particular his management style.

‘I think the biggest thing that changed it for me was when I went through a divorce with my ex-wife,’ he said, adding the painful split ‘put me into a very deep depression.’

‘I had a choice to go left or right. One was go left, drink and be a victim, and drink my sorrows away, or turn right and go have a good look at myself, get an idea of what my part of it was, get to know who I really am.

‘And go from there and have more compassion for other people. So, that’s what really changed it.’

The captain also praised the show for also helping him to learn more about himself.  ‘I’m lucky enough to have a vehicle that’s recording me and showing me how I really am, not how I think I am. And that is so awesome!’

‘Then you get to a point, you’ve got to pull the ripcord,’ he said of his relationship with his ex

Titheradge has spent much of his life working on boats, beginning his career at age 18

The show will be returning soon, with Below Deck and Below Deck Mediterranean recently renewed

Helping others is something that Titheradge is committed to off the show and is part of the reason he appreciates the celebrity it has given him.

‘That’s one of the big reasons that I’ve really stayed in the show, it’s given me this platform to shine it on things that are way bigger than me,’ he said.

The charities Titheradge has contributed to include GDS Husky Rescue, Wounded Warriors, Blue Jacket Fashion Show, Furry Friends, along with causes inspired by the bullying he endured as a child.

Titheradge, who also runs the yacht management company Yachting Concepts, will also be releasing a podcast which partly focuses on mental health, Charting The Course.

‘It’s gonna be based on, mental health, mentorship and travel,’ he said.

Meanwhile, Below Deck will soon be returning to the small screen.

At BravoCon 2025, the network announced hat Below Deck had been renewed for a 13th season and Below Deck Mediterranean would also be back for season 11.

Below Deck: Down Under will also be returning for a fourth season on February 2.
