The Defense Forces of Ukraine have modernized the Soviet anti-aircraft missile complex “Kub” in order to use it to defeat Russian attack drones.

The “Kub” complex, developed in the USSR in the 1960s, was originally intended to cover tank units from air targets at medium and low altitudes. Its range of damage reached about 20 kilometers, and the system could work on targets at heights from 100-200 meters to 5-7 kilometers.
Ukrainian specialists have combined the self-propelled air defense system platform with modern control and tactical solutions, actually integrating the elements of the Kuba and Buk into a single combat system. According to the military, all launches are carried out from a self-propelled fire installation, which greatly simplifies combat operations.
The need for such adaptation arose due to the intensive use of anti-aircraft systems in the first years of a full-scale invasion and the shortage of missiles. As explained in the unit, it was then that the decision was made to create a “spark” of “Kuba” and “Buk” in order to maintain the effectiveness of air defense.
The Air Command “Center” reported that the modernized “Kub” has already destroyed five Russian attack drones of the “Shakhed” type.
During the past day, the Russian occupiers shelled the Kharkiv region, using guided aerial bombs and drones of several types.
On the night of February 1, Russian troops launched a massive attack on Ukraine, using 90 drones, about 60 of which were Shahed-type attack UAVs.
