Arsenal, Liverpool and Barcelona are the only teams to have reached the last 16 of the Champions League after the league stage in two consecutive seasons.

We compare the number of points scored by these clubs in the two stages of the Champions League.

Champions League 2024/25

  • 21 – Liverpool
  • 19 – Barcelona
  • 19 – Arsenal

Champions League 2025/26

  • 24 – Arsenal
  • 18 – Liverpool
  • 16 – Barcelona

Arsenal became the first club in the history of the Champions League stages to score the maximum 24 points in one season (2025/26).

In both seasons, in order to qualify for the round of 16, teams needed to score at least 16 points.

Champions League 2024/25

  • 16 – Bayer
  • 16 – Lille
  • 16 – Aston Villa

Champions League 2025/26

  • 16 – Barcelona
  • 16 – Chelsea
  • 16 – Sporting
  • 16 – Manchester City

Real Madrid scored the same number of points (15) in two seasons, which was not enough to reach the 1/8 finals in both cases.

In order to qualify for the playoff round, in the 2024/25 season it was necessary to score at least 11 points, in the 2025-26 season – 9.

Champions League 2025/26

  • 9 – Bude-Glimt
  • 9 – Benfica

Slovan and Young Boys (both in 2024/25) remain the only teams to fail to collect a single point at the league stage in the same season.
