The European Commission announced the provision of assistance to Ukraine and Moldova in the amount of 153 million euros

The European Commission has announced the provision of emergency aid to Ukraine and Moldova, which hosts refugees, in the amount of 153 million euros.

According to the press service of the commission, the EU allocates 145 million euros of humanitarian aid to Ukraine to provide protection, housing, food, monetary assistance, psychosocial support and access to water and medical services. Another 8 million euros will be allocated to Moldova to support Ukrainian refugees.

“Daily civilian casualties, large-scale destruction of infrastructure and massive population displacement are further exacerbating the enormous humanitarian needs. As a result of Russia’s ongoing attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, millions of people in the country are affected by frost,” the message reads.

At the same time, along with the allocation of humanitarian aid, the EU has increased emergency energy assistance – this week, 447 power generators worth 3.7 million euros were delivered to restore power supply to hospitals, shelters and other critical services. An additional 500 generators are also being deployed to help keep essential services running.

After the last massive attacks by the Russian Federation, the energy system of Ukraine is under a state of emergency, the most difficult situation is in Kyiv and the Kyiv region. The night before, Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported on 639 high-rise buildings without heat in Kyiv – out of almost six thousand, in which heating disappeared as a result of the Russian attack on the capital’s critical infrastructure on January 24.

According to the city authorities, most of these houses were twice restored or tried to restore heating after the previous mass shelling on January 9 and 20.
