All of them were involved in the brutal suppression of peaceful protests and the arbitrary arrest of political activists and human rights defenders.
Organizations included in the sanctions list include Iran’s Audiovisual Media Regulatory Agency (SATRA), the cyberspace organization Seraj, and several software companies.
Iran’s military support for Russia’s war against Ukraine continues to pose a direct threat to EU security, which is why the Council of the European Union has also imposed restrictive measures against four individuals and six organizations associated with the missile and drone development program.
These include Khojir Missile Development and Production, the lead organization in Iran’s ballistic missile program, and Sahara Thunder, an Iranian import-export trading company that acts as a shell company for Iran’s Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics.
Among the individuals included in the sanctions list are businessmen, CEOs and shareholders of private companies involved in the development and production of Iranian ballistic missiles and therefore involved in Iran’s missile or UAV program.
In addition, the EU Council extended the ban on the export to Iran of components and technologies used in the production of UAVs and missiles. This applies to electronics, computers, sensors, navigation equipment and special materials.
It will be recalled that the scale of the suppression of protests in Iran also led to increased support in the EU for the idea of recognizing Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization.
What happened before:
- After a long blockade, France announced on Wednesday night that it would support the move, which Berlin and some other capitals had demanded.
- On January 28, EU ambassadors gave the green light to sanctions against Iran in connection with the brutal suppression of protests.
