“The news coming out of Ukraine every morning is terrible. What Russia is doing is state terror. It goes beyond war. People are freezing to death. Many are fleeing Kyiv and other cities,” commented European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.

This loan is part of the Ukraine Facility program. Thanks to it, the total amount of EU support for the purchase of gas for emergency needs during the winter of 2025-2026 reached 977 million euros.

An important condition of the agreement is that Naftogaz undertakes to reinvest an amount equivalent to this financing in renewable energy and decarbonization projects.

Also on Thursday, the European Commission announced about 145 million euros of emergency humanitarian aid Ukraine against the background of increased Russian attacks.

On January 27, a batch of 76 emergency generators from the strategic reserves of the EU arrived in Kyiv.
