The head of the National Association of Lobbyists of Ukraine (NALU), spokesman of the National Association of Lawyers of Ukraine (NAAU) Oleksiy Shevchuk said that he and members of his family have received threats of physical violence. He announced this during a press conference at the Interfax-Ukraine agency.
According to him, after his appointment as a member of the competitive commission for the selection of the deputy head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP), he and his family members began to receive threats of physical violence.
“My family and I received direct threats to our lives and health. Yesterday evening, in connection with my appointment as a member of the commission for the selection of prosecutors to the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP), my family and I received messages that we should be physically destroyed,” Shevchuk said.
He added that due to threats and pressure, he was forced to evacuate the family, which is in a state of great stress.
We will remind, earlier it became known that Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko appointed lawyer Oleksiy Shevchuk as a member of the competitive commission for the selection of the deputy head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP).
After the announcement of this decision, a public campaign criticizing the appointment began in social networks.
In particular, bloggers Ihor Lachenkov, Roman Sinitsyn and adviser to the Minister of Defense Serhii Sternenko publicly called on the Prosecutor General to replace Shevchuk as part of the competition commission.
Oleksiy Shevchuk stated that it was after this information campaign that he and his family started receiving direct threats.
“Messages and threats came from people close to the group, which today is a marginal point of influence on society. In particular, it is a blogger like Ihor Lachenkov, a blogger like Serhiy Sternenko, a blogger like Roman Sinitsyn. These people have now prepared an attempt on my family. I also learned about this from separate sources who informed me this morning that they have already found a person who is ready to carry out this attempt. This is critical point of pressure on me as a public figure and a lawyer,” Shevchuk said.
He also said that he knows how and when, according to him, the attempt was to be carried out.
“I know that the attempt was supposed to take place already this Friday, it was supposed to be done near my house. I was informed about this planned action,” Shevchuk said.
Against this background, he appealed to the President of Ukraine and law enforcement agencies to ensure the protection of his family.
“I am asking now to protect myself and my family. I am asking the Minister of Internal Affairs to prevent marginal elements who were involved in the public killing of a person and showing it on video camera from doing it again,” says Shevchuk.
In addition, Shevchuk stated that he was under pressure from the head of the Anti-Corruption Center Vitaliy Shabunin and his entourage.
According to him, it is about attempts to influence organizations in order to form and falsify public appeals to law enforcement agencies regarding him.
“In addition to threats and preparation of an attempt on my family, falsification of public appeals is also being prepared in electronic systems, in particular on the Facebook network. Today at 10:42 a.m. a statement was received from one of the journalists of professional publications that one of the activists is forming an electronic petition against my person and is forming the petition exclusively in an artificial mode, falsifying votes. Therefore, a discrediting campaign is now being conducted against me,” Shevchuk notes.
