Wholesale prices for potatoes in Ukraine suddenly went up — up to UAH 7-13 per kilogram.
This is reported by EastFruit analysts.
This 16% increase compared to the beginning of January is caused by a shortage of quality products and stable demand. Sellers note that it is becoming more and more difficult to find sufficient quantities of selected potatoes.
Earlier, in the fall of 2025, farmers actively reduced prices in order to quickly sell batches that were deteriorating. Since December, the market has “frozen” at a low level, but in mid-January, everything changed.
Producers without modern warehouses ran out of stocks even before the frost, and owners of quality products keep them in reserve, waiting for a further jump in prices.
Last season’s weather vagaries exacerbated the problem: a rainy autumn worsened tubers’ dormancy in many regions.
Planting material produced in Ukraine turned out to be of low quality, which reduced the yield. These factors together squeeze the supply in the market.
We will remind, in Ukraine, the price of sunflower rose to the maximum of the season.
The government also instructed to control drug prices due to the risk of price increases.
