In Ukraine, the price of sunflower rose to the maximum of the season

Ukraine recorded the highest purchase prices for sunflowers for the 2025-2026 season. Ukraine recorded the highest purchase prices for sunflowers for the 2025-2026 season. The main reasons for the increase were the rise in the price of sunflower oil on world markets, as well as the weakening of the hryvnia against the US dollar.

This is reported by Grain Trade.

The market momentum was given by the increase in the cost of sunflower oil in the world and the increase in the exchange rate of the United States dollar against the hryvnia on the interbank foreign exchange market.

Purchase prices for sunflower have increased by 1,000–1,500 hryvnias per ton and currently amount to 29,000–30,000 hryvnias per ton. At the same time, export prices for sunflower oil increased by USD 20-30 per ton.

The limited supply of Ukrainian sunflower oil for export caused a further increase in quotations of Russian products. During the week, Russian sunflower oil prices rose by US$20-30 per ton to US$1,270-1,280 per ton FOB, Black Sea.

Against this background, demand prices from India also increased: the cost of deliveries with delivery to Mumbai increased to US$ 1,390-1,400 per tonne on cost, insurance and freight terms, which is also US$ 20-30 more than a week earlier.

In Ukraine, export demand prices for sunflower oil increased by 20-30 US dollars per ton over the last week – up to 1270-1280 US dollars with delivery to ports. In general, since the beginning of the year, the increase is already 50-60 US dollars per ton.

Against this background, the purchase prices for sunflower rose for the week by 1,000-1,500 hryvnias per ton to 29,000-30,000 hryvnias per ton, or 590-610 US dollars without value added tax (for oil content of 50 percent) with delivery to processing plants. In separate agreements, prices exceeded 30,500 hryvnias per ton.

What factor further pushes prices?

An additional factor in the price increase was the weakening of the hryvnia: during the week, the exchange rate of the United States dollar on the interbank reached 43.56 – 43.59 hryvnias, and the prices of sunflower oil reached 1,300 United States dollars per ton. This allowed the processors to profitably sell their products and promptly raise the purchase prices for raw materials.

At the same time, the demand for sunflower remains limited in time. Some processing enterprises, in particular in the south of Ukraine, do not yet plan to start production due to constant shelling and problems with electricity supply, so analysts advise farmers to take advantage of the current wave of price increases.

Potatoes and tomatoes have risen in price in Ukraine, which has increased in price in a week.

The Ministry of Economy assures that there is no shortage of goods and there is no hype in stores.

The State Statistics Service published data on product prices in December: what went up and down.

As a reminder, prices have been falling in Ukraine for the second month in a row.

It will also become more expensive to assemble a PC in 2026.
