The SBU detained a Belarusian spy in Kyiv who tried to UNIAN collage, screenshotsThe Security Service, together with the Internal Security of the Main Intelligence Directorate, prevented an agent of the Belarusian KGB from infiltrating the units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

As a result of a multi-stage special operation, a highly conspiratorial female spy who worked for the KDB since 2015 was detained in Kyiv. According to the case file, in 2020 she was seconded from Minsk for agency work in Ukraine.

By this time, the spy was already in the SBU’s field of vision, which was documenting the enemy’s intelligence activity in stages.

As the investigation established, the enemy mission was performed by a 35-year-old citizen of the Republic of Belarus. She acted under the guise of journalistic activity and for some time worked as a reporter for Viktor Medvedchuk’s “112 channel” in the countries of the former Soviet Union.

After the closure of Medvedchuk’s resources, the KDB of the Republic of Belarus “seconded” the agent to Ukraine under the coordination of the top military and political leadership of Belarus.

Even before the start of the full-scale war, the figure got a job at one of the leading media outlets in our country. She used this work and the connections of her colleagues from this mass media to expand personal contacts among Ukrainian politicians, the military and foreign diplomats.

Already during the full-scale invasion, the agent’s supervisor instructed her to come to one of the EU countries for additional training. The woman crossed the border under the fictitious pretext of a medical examination.

In order to contact a Belarusian special agent on the territory of the European Union, the person involved bought a new smartphone with a “one-time” SIM card and then got rid of the gadget.

During the briefing, the spy received the task of collecting information about the citizens of the Russian Federation/Russian Federation, who are helping Ukraine in the fight against the aggressor state.

The agent was also tasked by the Belarusian KGB to establish informal contacts with officials of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in our country to gather intelligence on the activities of Chinese diplomats in Ukraine.

After returning to Kyiv, the agent tried to get a job at one of the headquarters units of the Military Intelligence of our country, where she got into the development of the Self-Security of the GUR.

Thanks to the timely exposure of the spy, the SBU and GUR employees started a long-term operational game with the Belarusian agent, which allowed not only to document her every step, but also to regularly misinform the Belarusian special service through her.

In particular, the forces of the foreign special service were redirected to copying the alleged secret information that circulated in a controlled manner around the spy.

Among other things, attempts to select potential candidates for recruitment to the agency apparatus of the KDB were recorded.

Having collected a complete evidence base on the spy, the SBU, in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, detained her near her place of residence. A smartphone and a voice recorder, on which she recorded classified information, were seized from the suspect.

So far, SBU investigators have informed her of the suspicion under Part 1 of Art. 114 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (espionage). The perpetrator is in custody. She faces up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The special operation was conducted under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
