Svitolina is the second Ukrainian to reach the semi-finals of the Australian Open

The first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina became the second representative of the country after Dayana Yastremska, who managed to reach the semi-finals of the Australian Open in singles.

On January 27, Elina defeated Coco Goff in her fourth major quarterfinal match in Melbourne. Next, Svitolina will meet with the world number one Arina Sobolenko, who is playing in a “neutral” status.

Yastremska played in the semifinals of the 2024 Australian Open. Then Dana lost to Zheng Qinwen in two sets with a score of 4:6, 4:6. That semifinal remains Yastremska’s only Grand Slam tournament so far.

If we take into account all categories, then in Melbourne the semi-finals in the doubles tournament were also held by Bondarenko’s sisters Alyona and Kateryna, and Lyudmila Kichenok (together with Alyona Ostapenko).

The Bondarenko sisters won the Aus Open trophy in 2008, defeating Victoria Azarenka and Shahar Peyer in the final. Kichenok and Ostapenko in 2024 lost in a decisive match for the title of the tandem of Xie Shuwei / Elise Mertens.

We can also mention Marta Kostyuk, who in 2017 became the champion of the junior Australian Open.
