In social networks, more and more tourists are talking about poisoning while on vacation in Bukovel. People complain of the same symptoms — vomiting, diarrhea, high fever, and complete loss of strength. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say they are monitoring the situation, but no official mass appeals have been recorded so far.

There is an alarming wave of posts from Ukrainians who returned from Bukovel not with photos from the slopes, but with hospital certificates. Tourists en masse describe similar symptoms — severe nausea, repeated vomiting, diarrhea, temperature, and such a state of weakness that skiing is out of the question.

These stories appear on Instagram, Threads, Facebook, blogs and comments under news. People warn each other, advise to take medicine, antiseptics, drink only bottled water and not even brush your teeth with tap water. But, as vacationers themselves write, even this does not always save. “We took bottled water with us to brush our teeth, used antiseptics… and still, on the second day of rest, I got sick. It’s terrible, you wouldn’t wish this condition on anyone: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever,” one of the tourists wrote.

BBC News Ukraine video producer Halyna Yakushko also shared her story. She said that she got sick on the fourth day of rest. At first, nausea and upset stomach appeared, and then – a complete lack of strength.

In the end, the woman called an ambulance, after which she was hospitalized. The treatment was not cheap: only one dropper cost about 6 thousand hryvnias, about 2 thousand more went to additional medicines. According to Halyna Yakushko, the emergency doctor who came to the call said directly: such cases are not uncommon in Bukovel. “We transport these people here in bundles for whole days,” the journalist relays the words of the medic.

Galina assumes that she could have been poisoned by the tap water she used to brush her teeth. According to her, she drank only bottled water and ate in the restaurants of the resort, so she does not see other obvious reasons. Against the background of these stories, the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention commented on the situation. They said that they are tracking information about possible poisonings and are in contact with medical facilities in the region.

At the same time, the center notes that no official reports of mass poisonings have been received from hospitals. Such appeals are grounds for immediate checks and investigations. “We are interacting with medical institutions to clarify information, monitoring is ongoing. At the moment, it is too early to talk about the reasons,” said the center’s spokesman, Volodymyr Dzhigita.

While experts are investigating the situation, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are reminding you of the basic rules for protecting against intestinal infections, especially during travel and mass recreation.

In particular, they advise:

  • wash hands with soap before eating and after public places;

  • use only safe drinking water;

  • avoid foods and drinks of dubious quality;

  • store perishable products in the refrigerator;

  • at the first symptoms of poisoning, do not self-medicate and consult a doctor.

Despite the lack of official confirmed outbreaks, the number of personal stories from tourists makes many wonder if a vacation in a popular resort is worth the risk of spending several days not on the slopes, but under a drip.
