“Today we summoned the ambassador of Ukraine to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Budapest. We will not tolerate any interference in the elections in Hungary, including attempts by Ukraine to influence their results and interfere in the electoral process in favor of the Tisza party,” the Hungarian minister said.

According to him, during the last weeks, the president of Ukraine and the Ukrainian government allegedly conducted an “open, shameless and aggressive campaign” of interference in the elections.

Sijarto emphasized that the right to decide the future of the country belongs exclusively to the Hungarian people.

“Only the Hungarian people can decide the future of Hungary. This decision is made in Hungary, not in Brussels and certainly not in Kyiv. We will defend our sovereignty by all possible means!” – emphasized the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary.

We will remind:

  • This is not the first time that the Hungarian authorities have accused foreign forces of supporting the opposition before the elections. The Tysa party, which the minister mentioned, is the main political opponent of Viktor Orban’s government.
  • On January 26, Orban accused Ukraine of attacking Hungary in an attempt to interfere in the parliamentary elections and ordered to call for a conversation the Ukrainian ambassador in Budapest.
  • Last week, Volodymyr Zelenskyi said at the World Economic Forum in Davos that “every Viktor who tries to sell European interests, “deserves a pat on the back of the head“. In his speech, he did not specify which Viktor he was talking about.
  • Orban responded to Zelenskyi’s speech in Davos, saying that “everyone will get what they deserve.”
