Last year’s Australian Open champion Madison Keys (WTA 9) failed to defend the trophy.

In the match of the 1/8 finals of the 2026 Australian Open, the American lost to her compatriot Jessica Pegula (WTA 6) in two sets in 1 hour and 19 minutes.

Pegula and Keys held their fourth face-to-face confrontation. Jessica defeated Madison for the second time.

Jessica reached the quarterfinals for the first time in her career on the Melbourne courts. Overall, this will be Jesse’s ninth Grand Slam quarterfinal.
