Saturday Night Live debuted a brand-new awards show on Saturday’s episode — entitled the Trumps.
James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump hosted the special event, where a plethora of awards were given out, including best picture and best kiss. And he won all of those awards, as Mike Myers made an appearance to reprise his impersonation of Elon Musk.
“It truly is an honor to be here hosting the Trumps. After that lady, whose name I already forgot, gave me her Nobel Prize, I thought, I need more awards,” he said at the top of the cold open. “And after what all my little freaks and psychos in ICE have been doing, I need more distractions.”
After winning the best picture award, Johnson’s Trump said in his acceptance speech, “Wow, this feels incredible. I love me, I really love me. I have so few people to thank. Myself, and, of course, the big man upstairs, which is what I call my brain tumor. And if I could be serious for a moment, there’s so much horrible stuff going on in our country and the world right now, but I promise you, I’m just getting started.”
Myers’ Musk was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for Comedy. “I’m so emotionless to be here. And if anyone knows humor, it’s me. You know, no tariffs on humor, legalized comedy, come on, come on,” he said when accepting his award.
A faux Carrie Underwood even made a cameo, alongside the construction worker from the Village People, to close out the inaugural awards show, poking fun at Trump’s real-life 2025 inauguration.
Teyana Taylor served as host of the night, making her SNL debut a mere few days after she was nominated for her first Academy Award and almost exactly two weeks after she won her first Golden Globe. “I am still processing. I am in shock,” she told The Hollywood Reporter as she was en route to SNL rehearsals.
The One Battler After Another actress acknowledged that “this week has been very insane” during her monologue, sharing the story of how she found out about the Oscar nomination: “It is a dream come true. I found out the way every little girl wants to find out, getting fitted for a bald cap next to Mikey Day.”
She went on to reference her Golden Globes acceptance speech, where she jokingly told her children, “Y’all better be off their damn phones and watching me right now” as she was presented with the honor.
“When I was giving my speech at the Golden Globes, I looked up to see my babies. I wanted to see their faces, you know, just to see that they were scrolling on their phones. So I’m like, ‘This is so amazing,’ ‘Get off the phones!’ But for real, I feel so lucky. I’ve worked so hard throughout my career to get to this point, and I’m just so grateful to be here with my babies cheering me on,” she concluded, as a shot of her children in the audience on their phones was shown.
Taylor was joined by Geese as a musical guest. Alexander Skarsgard will join next Saturday night as host with Cardi B as musical guest.
10 episodes of season 51 of SNL have already aired, as Bad Bunny, Amy Poehler, Sabrina Carpenter, Miles Teller, Nikki Glaser, Glen Powell, Melissa McCarthy, Josh O’Connor, Ariana Grande and Finn Wolfhard all took turns in the leading role. During last week’s episode, Wolfhard’s former Stranger Things co-stars Caleb McLaughlin and Gaten Matarazzo notably joined the actor during his monologue as host.
