Tripartite negotiations on ending Russia’s war against Ukraine will continue next week in Abu Dhabi, confirmed the special envoy of the US President, Steve Witkoff.

“The talks were very constructive and it was agreed to continue the talks next week in Abu Dhabi. President Trump and his entire team are committed to establishing peace in this war,” he wrote on the Kh.

On January 23-24, tripartite negotiations between Ukraine, the USA and Russia took place in Abu Dhabi (UAE). President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the discussions constructive and suggested that the next meetings will take place next week – Ukraine is ready to move forward.

According to Axios, with reference to Ukrainian officials, a meeting of American mediators with Russian and Ukrainian negotiators took place in Abu Dhabi, and there was also a meeting of Russians and Ukrainians without the presence of Americans.

A spokesman for the UAE government said the January 23-24 talks were held in a “constructive and positive atmosphere” and included direct interaction between representatives of Russia and Ukraine on “unresolved elements of the US-proposed peace agreement, as well as confidence-building measures aimed at supporting progress toward a comprehensive agreement.”

The publication RBC-Ukraine, referring to an informed source familiar with the details of the negotiations, wrote that during the negotiations more progress was made in the discussions of the military bloc on the issues of whether the disarmament of forces is necessary, how the cessation of hostilities will be monitored, while there is still no decision regarding the territories.

Earlier, Zelenskyi said that the issue of Donbas is a key issue at the negotiations in Abu Dhabi.

Yuriy Ushakov, an aide to the Russian president, said that on January 22, at the talks between US representatives and Vladimir Putin, they stated that “without a solution to the territorial issue regarding the formula agreed in Anchorage, it is not worth counting on achieving a long-term settlement.”

Later, the Kremlin refused to specify what was meant by the “Anchorage formula”, but stated that Moscow insists on the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the territory of Donbas.

Earlier in December, Zelenskyi said that the issue of possible territorial solutions should be decided by the people of Ukraine “in the format of elections or in the format of a referendum.”

Yuriy Ushakov, commenting on this statement, said that “the entire Donbas is Russian.”

Part of Donbas is under the control of the Ukrainian military. Fierce battles continue at the front.
