“We will see significantly larger reserves than before in NATO states bordering Russia,” Lovin, who is the deputy chief of staff for operational management of the NATO Land Command in Izmir, told the publication.
According to him, this will include, for example, “weapons and ammunition warehouses for rearming defense systems in the automated zone, as well as for equipping NATO forces.”
Lovin noted that the Alliance intends to “build a complex multi-layer defense system along the border with Russia and Belarus and use not only conventional troops for protection, but also with the help of obstacles and technologies to create a robotic or automated zone in the border zone with the enemy, which will have to be overcome first.”
A system of reconnaissance sensors and largely automated and robotic weapons should help stop Russian forces in the first phase of an attack, while preserving the lives of their own soldiers.
According to the general, the new automated zone on the border with Russia and Belarus will be mostly uninhabited.
What preceded: On October 16, the European Commission presented to the member states a comprehensive plan for strengthening European defense capabilities, which, among other things, provides for combating drones and other threats from the air, sea and space.
It was also reported that the EU wants to create a drone alliance with Ukraine in early 2026.
Poland plans to start creating a national system to combat drones, without waiting for the implementation of the European Union’s “drone wall” initiative.
